"Senior Moments" Columnist Signs with Star Creek

While fun, adventure and romance may seem reserved for the young, Pasadena-based author/columnist Patricia Bunin believes life doesn’t start to get really interesting until after the age of 50. And she has the stories to prove it in her new book, “Password: Senior Moment,” a collection of funny, poignant and inspiring stories for the baby boomer crowd and beyond.

Bunin’s book will be released this August by Star Creek Entertainment.

“I love being the bearer of good news that aging is a positive thing,” said Bunin, a columnist for MediaNews Group. “And I think the longer you live, the more interesting you are. That’s why I’ll never run out of things to write about.”

“Password: Senior Moment” is based on Bunin’s weekly “Senior Moments” newspaper column. She describes her book as a collection of personal vignettes that illustrate how aging adults design and define their lives. The stories deal with everything from taking care of aging parents to online dating to learning the ins and outs of the Internet.

One of Bunin’s favorites is a tale about helping her mother pack for a move to an assisted living retirement home. Through the experience, she said she came to realize the value in her mom’s belongs far beyond their material worth.

Another story that Bunin is particularly fond of is the one on which her book is based. The “Password: Senior Moment” vignette is a hilarious look at the challenges seniors can face trying to navigate the World Wide Web.

“Whether you’re closing in on 50, 60, 70 or beyond, my book will make you laugh and sometimes cry over life’s little moments that everyone can relate to,” said Bunin. “And hopefully it will get across the message that our senior years are the most enriching and rewarding of our entire lives.”

Bunin’s "Senior Moments" column has been published in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Whittier Daily News, Pasadena Star-News, San Bernardino Sun, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, and, either in print, online – or both – in other papers of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group since 2009. It has continued to grow in popularity, drawing rave reviews from readers, including TV newscaster Patrick Healy of NBC.

“Patricia’s column about hashtags had me howling,” Healy said. “She is a wonderful stylist.”

CBS2 News Anchor Kent Shocknek agreed. “ONLY Patricia could get two topics, including spousal murder, into a light, breezy 350 words. I love her work!” said Shocknek, who is writing the foreword for her book.

Along with her columns, Bunin has contributed essays to “Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul” and two books by Seal Press: “Tied in Knots” and “The Bigger the Better, The Tighter the Sweater.”

She also published a poetry magazine, “The Rufus,” under a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Most recently, Bunin was invited to be a guest writer for the SCAN Health Plan Newsletter.

Luanne Hunt Charts In Europe

“Christmas Without You,” a song that country legend Patsy Cline commissioned but never got to record, peaked at No. 15 in December on Europe’s prestigious Hotdisc Top 40 chart. The tune now belongs to Luanne Hunt, who has recorded several songs by former writers for Cline, Lawton Jiles and Buster Beam (“Let The Teardrops Fall,” “Crazy Dreams,” “How Can I Face Tomorrow?”). The duo wrote “Christmas Without You” in 1960 upon Cline’s request.
